- Check camshaft journals and cams for wear or damage. Measure height of lobes with a micrometer and replace camshaft if measurement is less than 1.431" (36.35 mm). Standard value is 1.451" (36.85 mm).
- Replace camshaft is journal diameter is less than 1.331" (33.80 mm) or difference between largest and smallest journal is more than .002" (.05 mm). Use an oil stone to correct step wear or scoring to cam lobes.
- Place camshaft on "V" blocks and check runout at center camshaft journal. A slight amount of runout can be corrected with a press. DO NOT apply heat. Standard runout is .002" (.05 mm). Replace camshaft if runout exceeds .004" (.10 mm).
- Standard camshaft taper is .006" (.015 mm) or less. Replace camshaft if taper is more than .002" (.05 mm).
