Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
- Disengage front axle from front steering knuckle. Refer to Removal and Installation (LH) .
- Remove lower pinch bolt and nut from steering knuckle. Refer to Exploded View .
- Remove front transverse link bolt and nut.CAUTION:
Do not reuse nut.
- Remove rear transverse link bolts and nuts.CAUTION:
Do not reuse nuts.
- Remove transverse link.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Check the following items, and replace the parts if necessary.
Transverse Link
- Transverse link for deformation, cracks or damage.
- Bushing for complete separation. (If completely separated, inner metal can be pulled out from transverse link.)
- Bushing for leakage.
- Ball joint boot for cracks or other damage, and also for grease leakage.
Ball Joint Inspection
Inspect the ball joint. Refer to Inspection and Adjustment .
Swinging Torque Inspection
- Move ball joint at least ten times by hand to check for smooth movement.
- Hook Tool (A) on ball joint at pinch bolt location. Confirm measurement value is within specifications when ball joint begins moving.
Tool number : - (NI-44372) Swinging torque : Refer to Ball Joint . - If swing torque exceeds standard range, replace transverse link.
Rotating Torque Inspection
- Move ball joint at least ten times by hand to check for smooth movement.
- Confirm measurement value is within specification when ball joint begins rotating.
Rotating torque : Refer to Ball Joint . - If rotating torque exceeds standard range, replace transverse link.
Ball Joint Inspection
Inspect the ball joint. Refer to Inspection and Adjustment .
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
Do not reuse transverse link nuts.
- Finger tighten nuts and bolt and torque to specification in the sequence shown in the illustration.
(1) : 148 Nm (15 kg-m, 109 ft-lb) (2, 3) : 98 Nm (10 kg-m, 72 ft-lb)
- Perform final tightening of bolts and nuts at the front suspension member, under unladen conditions with tires on level ground.
- Check wheel alignment. Refer to Inspection and Adjustment .
- Adjust neutral position of steering angle sensor. Refer to Description .
- Perform "ADDITIONAL SERVICE WHEN REPLACING OR REMOVING DAST PARTS". Refer to Special Repair Requirement .
