Removal and Installation
REMOVAL
- Remove front suspension member. Refer to Removal and Installation .
- Remove nuts, washers, bolts and steering gear from front suspension member.CAUTION:
Do not reuse steering gear nuts.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
- Torque steering gear (1) bolts to specification in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Bolts : 98 N.m (9.9 kg-m, 72 in-lb)
CAUTION:
Do not reuse steering gear nuts. After installing steering gear, check alignment of inner guide to dash panel as follows:
INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION
- Check that rear cap projection resinous part (B) of the steering gear (2), is centered and not touching either side of the lower joint (1) slit (A).
- Hand tighten pinch bolts, then torque to specification.
- On the CONSULT screen, select "EPS/DAST 3" >> "DATA MONITOR" >> "ST ANGLE SENSOR", and then check that the value is within specifications.
Monitor item Condition Standard value ST ANGLE SENSOR Vehicle: Straight-ahead position ST ANGLE SENSOR ≤ ± 10 ° - If the value is outside specifications perform the following steps:
- Remove lower joint cover.
- Make a matching mark on the lower joint and the steering gear.
- Remove the pinch bolt and separate the lower joint from the steering gear.
- While watching the CONSULT screen, rotate the steering wheel one full turn in the direction that brings the value within specification.CAUTION:
Do not move steering gear while lower joint is separated from steering gear.
NOTE:If initial direction of rotation brings the value further out of specification, rotate in the opposite direction.
- Install lower joint to steering gear and install pinch bolt.
- Install lower joint cover.
- Perform "ADDITIONAL SERVICE WHEN REPLACING OR REMOVING DAST PARTS". Refer to Special Repair Requirement .
