Removal and Installation

REMOVAL 

NOTE:

• When removing components such as hoses, tubes/lines, etc., cap or plug openings to prevent fluid from spilling.
• Do not swap ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) between vehicles for any reason.

1. Disconnect the battery cable from the negative terminal. Refer to Battery Disconnect .
2. Remove the air inlet tube and the air duct 1 as an assembly. Refer to Removal and Installation .
3. Remove the active torque rod actuator. Refer to Removal and Installation .
4. Remove the dash panel heat shield (1) and the retainers.

5. Disconnect the harness connector (1) from the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) by following the procedure described below:

   Push the pawl (A). Move the lever (B) in the direction (C) until the harness connector is unlocked. Disconnect the harness connector from the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit).

6. Separate the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) harness clip from the bracket.
7. Loosen the brake tube flare nuts using a flare nut wrench and separate the brake tubes from the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit). Refer to Exploded View .
8. Remove the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) grommet nuts. Refer to Exploded View .
9. Remove the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) from the bracket.
   CAUTION:

   • To prevent damage to the parts, do not remove and do not install ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) by holding harness connector.
   • To prevent damage to the parts, be careful not to drop ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) or apply excessive impact to it.
10. Remove the nut, bolts, and actuator bracket (if necessary).

INSTALLATION 

NOTE: Do not swap ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) between vehicles for any reason.

1. If removed, install the actuator bracket using the following procedure:

   CAUTION:

   Do not apply excessive impact to brackets.

   Position the actuator bracket in the vehicle. Hand tighten the nut. Tighten the nut and bolts to the specified torque in the sequence shown in the illustration.

   Bolts	: 13.5 N.m (1.4 kg-m, 10 ft-lb)
   Nut	: 13.5 N.m (1.4 kg-m, 10 ft-lb)

2. Install the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) and the grommet nuts to the actuator bracket.
   CAUTION:

   • Do not apply excessive impact to ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), such as dropping it.
   • Do not install actuator by holding harness.
3. Install the brake tubes to the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit). Refer to Exploded View .
   CAUTION:

   To install, use flare nut crowfoot and torque wrench.

4. Install the harness connector (1) to the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) by following the procedure described below:

   Connect the harness connector to the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit). Move the lever (A) in the direction (B) until the harness connector is locked.

   CAUTION:

   After installing the harness connector in the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit), make sure the connector is securely locked.

5. Install the ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit) harness clip to the bracket.
6. Install the dash panel heat shield and the retainers.
7. Install the active torque rod actuator. Refer to Removal and Installation .
8. Install the air inlet tube and the air duct 1. Refer to Removal and Installation .
9. Connect the battery cable to the negative terminal. Refer to Battery Disconnect .
10. Bleed air from the brake tubes. Refer to Bleeding Brake System .
11. Adjust the neutral position of steering angle sensor. Refer to Description .
12. Perform additional service when replacing ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit). Refer to Description .
13. Perform additional service when replacing or removing DAST parts (if equipped with Direct Adaptive Steering). Refer to Special Repair Requirement .
