A/T Fluid: Changing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Infiniti Q50. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
Recommended fluid and fluid capacity : Refer to FLUIDS AND LUBRICANTS .
CAUTION:
  • Use only recommended ATF. Never mix with other ATF.
  • Using ATF other than recommended ATF will cause deterioration in driveability and A/T durability, and may damage the A/T, which is not covered by the INFINITI new vehicle limited warranty.
  • Be sure that ambient temperature is 0°C (32°F) or more when performing work.
  • Always use shop paper. Never use shop cloth.
  • When filling ATF, be careful not to scatter heat generating parts such as exhaust.
  1. Step 1
    1. Install the O-ring (315268E000) (A) to the charging pipe (310811EA5A) (B).

  2. Step 2
    1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake.
    2. Shift the selector lever to "P" position.
    3. Use CONSULT to check that the ATF temperature is 40°C (104°F) or less.
    4. Lift up the vehicle.
    5. Remove rear engine cover. Refer to EXPLODED VIEW WITH TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    6. Remove the drain plug from the oil pan, then drain the ATF.
    7. When the ATF starts to drip, temporarily tighten the drain plug to the oil pan.
      NOTE:

      Never replace drain plug and drain plug gasket with new ones yet.

    8. Remove overflow plug from oil pan. Refer to EXPLODED VIEW WITH TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    9. Install the charging pipe (A) to the overflow plug hole.

      CAUTION:

      Tighten the charging pipe by hand.

    10. Install the bucket pump hose (B) to the charging pipe.
      CAUTION:

      Insert the bucket pump hose all the way to the end of the charging pipe.

    11. Fill approximately 3 liters (3-1/8 US qt, 2-5/8 lmp qt) of the ATF.
    12. Remove the bucket pump hose and the charging pipe, then temporarily tighten the overflow plug to the oil pan.
      CAUTION:

      Quickly perform the procedure to avoid ATF leakage from the oil pan.

      NOTE:

      Never replace overflow plug with new ones yet.

    13. Lift down the vehicle.
    14. Set the vehicle to READY in inspection mode 5 state. Refer to PRECAUTIONS CONCERNING ON-BOARD SERVICING OF HYBRID SYSTEMS .
    15. Start the engine and wait for approximately 3 minutes.
    16. Stop the engine.
  3. Step 3
    1. Repeat "Step 2".
  4. Final Step
    1. Use CONSULT to check that the ATF temperature is 40°C (104°F) or less.
    2. Lift up the vehicle.
    3. Remove the drain plug from the oil pan, then drain the ATF.
    4. When the ATF starts to drip, tighten the drain plug to the oil pan to the specified torque. Refer to EXPLODED VIEW WITH TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
      CAUTION:

      Never reuse drain plug and drain plug gasket. Failure to do this may cause the leakage of ATF.

    5. Remove overflow plug from oil pan.
    6. Install the charging pipe (A) to the overflow plug hole.

      CAUTION:

      Tighten the charging pipe by hand.

    7. Install the bucket pump hose (B) to the charging pipe.
      CAUTION:

      To prevent leakage of ATF, insert the bucket pump hose all the way to the end of the charging pipe.

    8. Fill approximately 3 liters (3-1/8 US qt, 2-5/8 lmp qt) of the ATF.
    9. Remove the bucket pump hose and the charging pipe, then temporarily tighten the overflow plug to the oil pan.
      CAUTION:

      Quickly perform the procedure to avoid ATF leakage from the oil pan.

      NOTE:

      Never replace overflow plug with new ones yet.

    10. Lift down the vehicle.
    11. For bleeding air from the sub electric oil pump, run the motor continuously for approximately 30 seconds. For motor running state, refer to SYSTEM DESCRIPTION .
    12. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    13. Turn ignition switch ON.
    14. Set the vehicle to inspection mode 5 state. Refer to PRECAUTIONS CONCERNING ON-BOARD SERVICING OF HYBRID SYSTEMS .
    15. Select "Data Monitor" in "TRANSMISSION" with CONSULT.
    16. Select "ATF TEMP 1" and "SUB E-OP REVOLUTION".
    17. Check that the "ATF TEMP 1" value is 35°C (95°F) or less.
    18. Set the vehicle to READY.
    19. Shift the selector lever through each gear position. Leave selector lever in "P" position.
      NOTE:

      Hold the lever at each position for 5 seconds.

    20. Lift up the vehicle when the ATF temperature reaches 35°C (95°F), and remove the overflow plug from the oil pan.
      CAUTION:
      • Perform this work the vehicle idling.
      • Check that the "Data Monitor" "SUB E-OP REVOLUTION" is 0 RPM.
    21. When the ATF starts to drip, tighten the overflow plug to the oil pan to the specified torque. Refer to EXPLODED VIEW WITH TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
      CAUTION:

      Never reuse overflow plug. Failure to do this may cause the leakage of ATF.

    22. Install rear engine cover. Refer to EXPLODED VIEW WITH TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    23. Lift up the vehicle.
    24. Turn ignition switch OFF.
