Diagnosis Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2016 Infiniti Q50. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. CHECK DTC PRIORITY

    If DTC P2138 is displayed with DTC P3157, first perform the confirmation procedure (trouble diagnosis) for DTC P3157.

    Is applicable DTC detected?

    YES 

    Perform diagnosis of applicable. Refer to DTC INDEX .

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 2  .

  2. CHECK APP SENSOR 1 AND 2 POWER SUPPLY - 1

    1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor harness connector.
    3. Turn ignition switch ON.
    4. Check the voltage between APP sensor harness connector terminals.
      APP sensor Voltage
      (Approx.)
      Connector + -
      Terminal
      Sensor 1 M124 4 5 5 V
      Sensor 2 10 11

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 7  .

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 3  .

  3. CHECK APP SENSOR 1 AND 2 POWER SUPPLY - 2

    Check the voltage between APP sensor harness connector and ground.

    Sensor 2 10

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 5  .

    NO 

    GO TO STEP 4  .

  4. CHECK APP SENSOR 1 AND 2 POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT

    1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect HPCM harness connector.
    3. Check the continuity between APP sensor harness connector and HPCM harness connector.
      + - Continuity
      APP sensor HPCM
      Connector Terminal Connector Terminal
      Sensor 1 M124 4 B14 10 Existed
      Sensor 2 10 31
    4. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    Perform trouble diagnosis for power supply circuit.

    NO 

    Repair or replace error-detected parts.

  5. CHECK APP SENSOR 1 AND 2 GROUND CIRCUIT

    1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
    2. Disconnect HPCM harness connector.
    3. Check the continuity between APP sensor harness connector and HPCM harness connector.
      + - Continuity
      APP sensor HPCM
      Connector Terminal Connector Terminal
      Sensor 1 M124 5 B14 21 Existed
      Sensor 2 11 27

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 6  .

    NO 

    Repair or replace error-detected parts.

  6. CHECK HPCM GROUND CIRCUIT

    Check the continuity between HPCM harness connector and ground.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    Perform INTERMITTENT INCIDENT .

    NO 

    Repair or replace error-detected parts.

  7. CHECK APP SENSOR 1 AND 2 SIGNAL CIRCUIT

    1. Check the continuity between APP sensor harness connector and HPCM harness connector.
      + - Continuity
      APP sensor HPCM
      Connector Terminal Connector Terminal
      Sensor 1 M124 6 B14 1 Existed
      Sensor 2 12 28
    2. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power.

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    GO TO STEP 8  .

    NO 

    Repair or replace error-detected parts.

  8. CHECK APP SENSOR

    Refer to COMPONENT INSPECTION (ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR) .

    Is the inspection result normal?

    YES 

    Perform INTERMITTENT INCIDENT .

    NO 

    Replace accelerator pedal. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
