FUNCTION

CONSULT-III FUNCTION CHART

Diagnostic test mode Function
Work support This mode enables a technician to adjust some devices faster and more accurately by following the indications on the CONSULT-III unit.
Self-diagnostic results Self-diagnostic results such as 1st trip DTC, DTCs and 1st trip freeze frame data or freeze frame data can be read and erased quickly.(1)
Data monitor Input/Output data in the ECM can be read.
CAN diagnostic support monitor The results of transmit/receive diagnosis of CAN communication can be read.
Active test Diagnostic Test Mode in which CONSULT-III drives some actuators apart from the ECMs and also shifts some parameters in a specified range.
DTC & SRT confirmation The status of system monitoring tests and the self-diagnosis status/result can be confirmed.
Function test This mode is used to inform customers when the vehicle condition requires periodic maintenance.
ECU part number ECM part number can be read.

  • THE IDLE AIR VOLUME THAT KEEPS THE ENGINE WITHIN THE SPECIFIED RANGE IS MEMORIZED IN ECM.

  • THE COEFFICIENT OF SELF-LEARNING CONTROL MIXTURE RATIO RETURNS TO THE ORIGINAL COEFFICIENT.

  • WITHIN 10 MINUTES AFTER STARTING "EVAP SYSTEM CLOSE"
  • WHEN TRYING TO EXECUTE "EVAP SYSTEM CLOSE" UNDER THE CONDITION EXCEPT ABOVE, CONSULT-III WILL DISCONTINUE IT AND DISPLAY APPROPRIATE INSTRUCTION.
    NOTE: WHEN STARTING ENGINE, CONSULT-III MAY DISPLAY "BATTERY VOLTAGE IS LOW. CHARGE BATTERY", EVEN IN USING CHARGED BATTERY.
When detecting EVAP vapor leak point of EVAP system
VIN REGISTRATION
  • IN THIS MODE, VIN IS REGISTERED IN ECM.

Self Diagnostic Item

Regarding items of DTC and 1st trip DTC, refer to "DTC INDEX ".

How to Read DTC and 1st Trip DTC

DTCs and 1st trip DTCs related to the malfunction are displayed in "self-diag results".

How to Erase DTC and 1st Trip DTC

NOTE:
  • If the ignition switch stays ON after repair work, be sure to turn ignition switch OFF once. Wait at least 10 seconds and then turn it ON (engine stopped) again.
  • If the DTC is not for A/T related items (see "DTC INDEX "), skip step  1.
  1. Erase DTC in TCM. Refer to "DTC INDEX ".
  2. Select "ENGINE" with CONSULT-III.
  3. Select "SELF-DIAG RESULTS".
  4. Touch "ERASE". (DTC in ECM will be erased.)

  • The engine control component part/control system has a trouble code, it is displayed as PXXXX. (Refer to "DTC INDEX ".)
FUEL SYS-B1
  • "Fuel injection system status" at the moment a malfunction is detected is displayed.
  • One mode in the following is displayed.

    Mode2: Open loop due to detected system malfunction

    Mode3: Open loop due to driving conditions (power enrichment, deceleration enleanment)

    Mode4: Closed loop - using oxygen sensor(s) as feedback for fuel control

    Mode5: Open loop - has not yet satisfied condition to go to closed loop

CAL/LD VALUE [%]
  • The calculated load value at the moment a malfunction is detected is displayed.
COOLANT TEMP [°C] or [°F]
  • The engine coolant temperature at the moment a malfunction is detected is displayed.
L-FUEL TRM-B1 [%]
  • "Long-term fuel trim" at the moment a malfunction is detected is displayed.
  • The long-term fuel trim indicates much more gradual feedback compensation to the base fuel schedule than short-term fuel trim.
L-FUEL TRM-B2 [%]
S-FUEL TRM-B1 [%]
  • "Short-term fuel trim" at the moment a malfunction is detected is displayed.
  • The short-term fuel trim indicates dynamic or instantaneous feedback compensation to the base fuel schedule.

  • The engine speed at the moment a malfunction is detected is displayed.

  • These items are displayed but are not applicable to this model.

  • If the signal is interrupted while the engine is running, an abnormal value may be indicated.
MAS A/F SE-B1 V
  • The signal voltage of the mass air flow sensor is displayed.
  • When the engine is stopped, a certain value is indicated.
  • When engine is running specification range is indicated in "SPEC".

B/FUEL SCHDL msec
  • "Base fuel schedule" indicates the fuel injection pulse width programmed into ECM, prior to any learned on board correction.
  • When engine is running specification range is indicated in "SPEC".

  • The mean value of the air-fuel ratio feedback correction factor per cycle is indicated.
  • When the engine is stopped, a certain value is indicated.
  • This data also includes the data for the air-fuel ratio learning control.
  • When engine is running specification range is indicated in "SPEC".

COOLAN TEMP/S °C or °F
  • The engine coolant temperature (determined by the signal voltage of the engine coolant temperature sensor) is displayed.
  • When the engine coolant temperature sensor is open or short-circuited, ECM enters fail-safe mode. The engine coolant temperature determined by the ECM is displayed.
A/F SEN1 (B1) V
  • The A/F signal computed from the input signal of the air fuel ratio (A/F) sensor 1 is displayed.

  • The signal voltage of the heated oxygen sensor 2 is displayed.

  • Display of heated oxygen sensor 2 signal:

    RICH: means the amount of oxygen after three way catalyst is relatively small.

    LEAN: means the amount of oxygen after three way catalyst is relatively large.

  • When the engine is stopped, a certain value is indicated.

  • The vehicle speed computed from the vehicle speed signal sent from unified meter and A/C amp. is displayed.

  • Indicates idle position [ON/OFF] computed by ECM according to the accelerator pedal position sensor signal.

  • Indicates [ON/OFF] condition of the air conditioner switch as determined by the air conditioner signal.

  • Indicates [ON/OFF] condition from the park/neutral position (PNP) signal.
 
PW/ST SIGNAL ON/OFF
  • [ON/OFF] condition of the power steering system (determined by the signal voltage of the power steering pressure sensor signal) is indicated.

  • Indicates [ON/OFF] condition from the electrical load signal.

    ON: Rear window defogger switch is ON and/or lighting switch is in 2nd position.

  • Indicates the correction of factor stored in ECM. The factor is calculated from the difference between the target air-fuel ratio stored in ECM and the air-fuel ratio calculated from A/F sensor 1 signal.

  • Indicates a command value for cooling fan. The value is calculated by ECM based on input signals.
 
AC EVA TEMP °C or °F
  • Indicates A/C evaporator temperature sent from "unified meter and A/C amp.".
 
AC EVA TARGET °C or °F
  • Indicates target A/C evaporator temperature sent from "unified meter and A/C amp.".
 
ALTDUTY %
  • Indicates the duty ratio of the power generation command value. The ratio is calculated by ECM based on the battery current sensor signal.

  • These items are displayed but are not applicable to this model.
HO2 S2 DIAG1 (B1) INCMP/CMPLT
  • Indicates DTC P0139 self-diagnosis (delayed responce) condition.

How to display permanent DTC status

  1. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at 10 seconds.
  2. Turn ignition switch ON.
  3. Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at 10 seconds.
  4. Turn ignition switch ON.
  5. Select "PERMANENT DTC STATUS" in "DTC & SRT CONFIRMATION" mode with CONSULT-III.
    NOTE: Permanent DTCs stored in ECM memory are displayed on the CONSULT-III screen to show if a driving pattern required for erasing permanent DTCs is complete (CMPLT) or incomplete (INCMP).
    CAUTION: Since the "PERMANENT DTC STATUS" screen displays the previous trip information, repeat the following twice to update the information: "Ignition switch OFF", "Wait for more than 10 seconds" and "Ignition switch ON".

    NOTE: This mode is not used in regions that permanent DTCs are not regulated by law.

SRT WORK SUPPORT Mode

This mode enables a technician to drive a vehicle to set the SRT while monitoring the SRT status.

PERMANENT DTC WORK SUPPORT Mode

This mode enables a technician to drive a vehicle to complete the driving pattern that is required for erasing permanent DTC.

NOTE: This mode is not used in regions that permanent DTCs are not regulated by law.
