Removal & Installation

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. Ensure steering wheel is centered and front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove steering wheel nut. Using Steering Wheel Puller (J1859A) and Puller Legs (J42578), remove steering wheel. See Fig 1 . Remove upper and lower steering column covers.
  3. Remove screws securing spiral cable to steering column. Ensure screw securing both halves of spiral cable together is not removed. Remove spiral cable from steering column.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten NEW driver-side air bag module Torx bolts and steering wheel nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Activate air bag system.
