Removal & Installation

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove center console lower cover. See Fig 1 . Remove center cluster trim. Remove glove box assembly.
- Remove center console. Remove side cover. Remove instrument panel cluster trim. Remove instrument panel cluster. Remove instrument panel storage bin. Remove knee bolster. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Remove spiral cable from steering column. See SPIRAL CABLE .
- Remove tilt lever knob from tilt lever by depressing tab in slot of tilt knob. Remove left lower instrument panel. Remove nut and bolt from upper steering column joint. Separate upper joint from lower joint. Remove nuts securing steering column to steering member. Remove steering column.
- Remove defroster grille. Remove left and right side defroster vent assemblies. Remove left and right vent assemblies. Remove left and right A-pillar trim panels. Remove bolts from instrument panel. Remove instrument panel.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten steering column upper joint bolt and nut, lower instrument panel bolts and knee bolster bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Activate air bag system.
