Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit Test

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) from transmission, leaving harness connector connected. Disconnect instrument cluster 24-pin harness connectors M24 and M26. See Figure . Using a DVOM set to AC range, measure voltage between terminal No. 63 (Light Blue wire) and No. 15 (Green/Yellow wire) at instrument panel harness connectors while turning VSS pinion quickly. See Figure . If approximately 5 volts AC does not exist, go to next step. If approximately 5 volts AC exists, VSS circuit is okay at this time.
  2. Test VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)  . If VSS is defective, replace VSS. If VSS is okay, repair open in Light Blue and/or Green/Yellow wires.
