Coolant Temperature Gauge Circuit Test

  1. Test coolant temperature sending unit. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT  . If coolant temperature sending unit is okay, go to next step. If coolant temperature sending unit is defective, replace coolant temperature sending unit.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster 24-pin harness connector M24. See Figure . Disconnect coolant temperature sending unit harness connector. Measure resistance in Yellow/Red wire between instrument cluster harness connector M24 terminal No. 18 and coolant temperature sensor harness connector. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open or shorted condition in Purple/White wire.
  3. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 18 (Yellow/Red wire) at combination meter harness connector M24. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Yellow/Red wire. If continuity does not exist, coolant temperature gauge circuit is okay at this time.
