Fuel Gauge Circuit Test

  1. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 5 (Black wire) at fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between fuel gauge sending unit and ground.
  2. Test fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT  under COMPONENT TESTS. If fuel gauge sending unit is okay, go to next step. If fuel gauge sending unit is defective, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. Disconnect instrument cluster 24-pin harness connector M33. Measure resistance in Green wire between terminal No. 2 of fuel gauge sending unit harness connector and instrument cluster harness connector M33 terminal No. 17. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Green wire between instrument cluster and fuel gauge sending unit.
  4. Check continuity between ground and instrument cluster harness connector M33 terminal No. 17 (Green wire). If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Green wire. If continuity does not exist, fuel gauge circuit is okay.
