Fuel Gauge Circuit Test

  1. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black wire) at fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between fuel gauge sending unit and ground.
  2. Test fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT  under COMPONENT TESTS. If fuel gauge sending unit is okay, go to next step. If fuel gauge sending unit is defective, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
  3. Disconnect combination meter harness connector M41. See Figure . Measure resistance in Green/Red wire between connector M41 terminal No. 17 and terminal No. 4 of fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. See Figure . Continuity should exist. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in Green/Red wire.
  4. Check continuity between ground and combination meter harness connector M41 terminal No. 17 (Green/Red wire). If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Green/Red wire. If continuity is not present, fuel gauge circuit is okay.
