Coolant Temperature Gauge Circuit Test

  1. Test coolant temperature sending unit. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENDING UNIT  under COMPONENT TESTS. If coolant temperature sending unit is okay, go to next step. If coolant temperature sending unit is not okay, replace coolant temperature sending unit.
  2. Disconnect combination meter harness connector M41. See Figure . Disconnect coolant temperature sending unit harness connector. Measure resistance between combination meter harness connector M41 terminal No. 18 (Purple wire) and coolant temperature harness connector. Continuity should exist. If is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open or short in wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Check continuity between ground and combination meter harness connector M41 terminal No. 18 (Purple wire). If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Purple wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If continuity does not exist, coolant temperature gauge circuit is okay.
