Description & Operation: Notes

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
NOTE: The instrument cluster is also referred to as combination meter and unified control meter. Ignition switch must be in the ON position for odometer and trip meters to operate.

The combination meter (instrument cluster) consists of odometer/trip meter, speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge and coolant temperature gauge. For view of instrument cluster, see Fig 1 . An internal control unit operates combination meter. Various warning lights, system indicators and gear selector position indicators are bulb type circuits. These circuits, as well as gauges and tachometer, are harnessed via a Flexible Print Circuit (FPM) from the rear of the combination meter. Combination meter can be removed with gauges installed, and is serviced as a complete assembly.

The record of the odometer is kept even if the battery cable is disconnected. The record of the trip meter is erased when the battery cable is disconnected. The odometer and trip meter segments can be checked in diagnosis mode. Meter/gauge can be checked in diagnosis mode.
