Installation (Frontier, Pathfinder, QX4 & Xterra)

  1. Press NEW axle bearing into bearing cage until it bottoms. Always press on outer race of wheel bearing during installation. Press NEW grease seal into bearing cage and coat sealing lip with grease. Press axle shaft into inner race of wheel bearing. Install plain washer and a NEW wheel bearing lock washer. Place faced side of lock nut on washer side and tighten lock nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure washer lip fits in nut groove.
  2. After installation, bend up locking tab on NEW bearing lock washer. Check wheel bearing preload and turn bearing cage to ensure smooth operation. Install NEW oil seal in rear axle housing and coat sealing lip with grease.
  3. Press ABS sensor rotor onto axle shaft until it contacts wheel bearing lock nut. Using Shaft Guide (ST37840000) install axle assembly into axle housing being careful not to damage oil seal. Ensure axle end play is zero and bearings operate smoothly. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
