Speedometer & VSS Circuit Test
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) from transmission, leaving harness connector connected. Disconnect combination meter harness connector N13. See Figure . Using a DVOM set to AC range, measure voltage between connector N13 terminals No. 12 (Brown/White wire) and No. 14 (Light Green/Black wire) while turning VSS pinion quickly. See Figure . If approximately .5 volts does not exist, go to next step. If approximately .5 volts exists, VSS circuit is okay at this time.
- Test VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) under COMPONENT TESTS. If VSS is defective, replace VSS. If VSS is okay, repair open in wiring harness between speedometer and VSS.
