Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Circuit Test

Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) from transmission, leaving harness connector connected. Disconnect instrument cluster White 16-pin harness connector M24. See Figure . Using a DVOM set to AC range, measure voltage between terminals No. 14 (Light Blue wire) and No. 16 (Gray/Yellow wire) at instrument panel harness connector M24 while turning VSS pinion quickly. See Figure . If approximately 5 volts AC does not exist, go to next step. If approximately 5 volts AC exists, VSS circuit is okay at this time.
Test VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) under COMPONENT TESTS. If VSS is defective, replace VSS. If VSS is okay, repair open in Light Blue and/or Gray/Yellow wires.
