Pre-Assembly Adjustment (H233B LSD)
- Measure friction disc and friction plate end play. Adjustment can be made by selecting friction disc thicknesses.
- End play is calculated by using equation E = A - (B + C).
- E - End play.
- A - Length of differential case contact surface to differential case inner bottom.
- B - Total thickness of friction discs, plates, spring disc and spring plate in differential case on one side.
- C - Length of differential case contact surface to back side of side gear.
See LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL FRICTION DISC & PLATE END PLAY ADJUSTMENT table. See Fig 1.
LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL FRICTION DISC & PLATE END PLAY ADJUSTMENTApplication In. (mm) E .002-.006 (.05-.15) A 1.949-1.951 (49.50-49.55) B .758-.798 (19.24-20.26) NOTE: Master gauge is a 1.18" (30 mm) block. - Using a caliper, measure value of "A". Using a micrometer, measure thickness "B" of each disc and plate. Using a dial indicator, measure value of "C". Attach dial indicator to base plate. Place differential case "B" on base plate, and install master gauge on case "B". See Fig 1.
- Adjust dial indicator scale to zero with indicator tip on master gauge. Install pinion mate gears, side gears and pinion mate shaft in differential case "B". Set dial indicator's tip on side gear. See Fig 1. Record reading.
- Using equation, select appropriate discs and plates to correctly adjust end play while keeping number of discs and plates to specification. See Figure or Figure. Set the selected discs and plates aside for reassembly.
