Fuel Gauge Circuit Test: Q45
- Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 4 (Black wire) at fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. See Fig 1
. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between fuel gauge sending unit and ground.
- Test fuel gauge sending unit. See FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT
under COMPONENT TESTS. If fuel gauge sending unit is okay, go to next step. If fuel gauge sending unit is defective, replace fuel gauge sending unit.
- Partially remove instrument cluster, leaving harness connectors connected. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Ground screw "B" on back of instrument cluster for less than 10 seconds and observe fuel gauge operation. See Figure
. If fuel gauge moves to full, go to next step. If fuel gauge does not move to full, replace printed circuit or fuel gauge as necessary.
- Disconnect instrument cluster Brown 16-pin harness connector N12. Measure resistance in Red/Blue wire between terminal No. 11 at instrument cluster harness connector N12 and terminal No. 5 at fuel gauge sending unit harness connector. See Figure
and Fig 1
. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Red/Blue wire between instrument cluster and fuel gauge sending unit.
- Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 11 (Red/Blue wire) at instrument cluster harness connector N12. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Red/Blue wire. If continuity does not exist, fuel gauge circuit is okay at this time.
