Description & Operation

Differential carrier assembly has a hypoid type ring and pinion gear set. The differential carrier is constructed of cast iron. The drive pinion is mounted in 2 tapered roller bearings. See Fig 1, Fig 2 or Fig 3.

Pinion bearing preload on H190A is set with a collapsible spacer. Pinion bearing preload adjustment on H233B is made with a spacer and washer between the front and rear bearing cones. Differential side bearing preload and pinion depth adjustments are made using washers.

A Limited Slip Differential (LSD) is an option on some models. On models equipped with rear wheel Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), an ABS speed sensor is mounted on pinion flange end of axle case. On models equipped with 4-wheel ABS, speed sensors are mounted on axle tubes near wheel bearings.
