Coolant Temperature Gauge Circuit Test
- Turn ignition on. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 41 of instrument cluster connector No. 3. See Fig 1
. If battery voltage is present, go to step 3). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Check for faulty fuse No. 4 (7.5-amp), located in passenger compartment fuse block. Also, check wiring harness between fuse and instrument cluster for an open or short. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Repair as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between ground and terminal No. 43 of instrument cluster connector No. 3. See Fig 1
. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair Black wire for an open or poor connection.
- Turn ignition on. Using a fused jumper wire, ground coolant temperature gauge terminal for less than 10 seconds. See Fig 2
. Gauge should move smoothly to full scale ("H") position. Replace gauge if it does not function as described. If gauge functions as described, go to next step.
- Check for faulty thermal transmitter. See THERMAL TRANSMITTER
under COMPONENT TESTS. Replace if necessary. If no prob-lems are found, go to next step.
- Using a DVOM, check Blue/Black wire between terminal No. 46 of instrument cluster connector No. 3 and thermal transmitter for an open or short. See Fig 1
. Repair as necessary.
