Fuel Gauge Circuit Test

  1. Ensure power circuit is okay. See POWER CIRCUIT TEST. Turn ignition on. Using jumper wire, ground fuel gauge terminal for less than 10 seconds. See Figure . Gauge should move smoothly to full scale ("F") position. Replace gauge if it does not function as described. If gauge functions as described, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between ground and terminal No. 10 of instrument cluster connector No. 1. See Figure . If continuity is not present, repair or replace wiring harness between instrument cluster and fuel gauge sending unit. If continuity exists, test fuel gauge sending unit. See procedures under FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT  under COMPONENT TESTS.
