DTC Information And Inspection: DTC Detecting Condition

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Item Detecting Condition Possible Cause
DTC Strategy Case 1
  • Monitor the engine coolant temperature (Signal stuck low)
  1. Poor connector connection
  2. Open or short in ECT sensor signal circuit
  3. Faulty cooling system
  4. Faulty ECT sensor
Case 2
  • Monitor the engine coolant temperature (Signal stuck high)
Case 3
  • Monitor the engine coolant temperature (Excessive high temperature check)
Enable Condition Case 1
  • No relevant failure
  • Battery voltage is more than 6V
  • ECTS at start-up is less than 76°C (169°F)
Case 2
  • No relevant failure
  • Battery voltage is more than 6V
  • ECTS at start-up is less than 76°C (169°F)
  • IATS value is between -10 and 70°C (14 and 158°F)
  • Ambient temperature is more than -10°C (14°F)
  • More than 250 (cumulative) seconds with part load driving condition (engine speed is more than 1400 RPM and vehicle speed is more than 22 mph and MAFS is more than 20 kg/h)
  • More than 200s (cumulative) with low load driving condition (trailing fuel cut off or idle with vehicle speed is less than 12 mph)
Case 3
  • No relevant failure
  • Oil temperature with engine OFF from previous driving cycle is more than 70°C (158°F)
  • Coolant temperature with engine OFF from previous driving cycle is more than 70°C (158°F)
  • Oil temperature at start-up is less than 35°C (95°F)
  • Intake air temperature at start-up is less than 35°C (95° F)
Threshold Value Case 1
  • Difference between modeled/actual coolant temperature increase is higher than threshold value
Case 2
  • ECTS signal variation since engine start-up is less than 2.25°C (4°F)
Case 3
  • ECTS at start-up is more than 40°C (104°F) and IATS is less than 0°C (68°F)
  • Coolant temperature at start-up is higher than intake air temp 20°C (68°F) when intake air temp is below 20°C (68°F)
Diagnostic Time
  • Immediately
MIL ON Condition
  • 2 driving cycles
