DTC Information And Inspection: DTC Detecting Condition

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
Troubleshooting Condition Possible Cause
Main Action
  • Monitor the wheel speed sensor signal
  1. Improper installation of wheel speed sensor (poor air gap)
  2. Abnormal Rotor and wheel bearing
  3. Faulty Wheel speed sensor
  4. Faulty IEBM
  5. Open or short of Wheel speed sensor circuit
  6. External noise
  7. A different type of Wheel speed sensor is installed
  8. Deformation of tone wheel (debris or contamination)
  9. Excessive mechanical force intrusion
  10. Failure to engage with the wheel speed sensor knuckle mounting bolt
Threshold value Case 1
  • ABS/ESC monitors abnormal wheel speed variation. This monitoring function works when the vehicle speed is above 2 km/h (1.24 MPH)
  1. A failure is detected when the ECU recognizes wheel speed change of ±100g more than either 56 times from one wheel or 5 times from two or more wheels
  2. A failure is detected when the ECU recognizes wheel speed change of 70g more than either 126 times from one wheel or 20 times from two or more wheels
  3. A failure is detected when the vehicle fails to recover vehicle speed within 140 msec after the wheel speed decelerates by -100g
  4. A failure is detected when the wheel speed change of ±28g is monitored more than 60 times from only one wheel

The number of speed jump counter "4)" is cleared when all of following conditions are satisfied more than 10 seconds consecutively

    100g: 35 kph/10 msec, 70g: 24 kph/10 msec, 28g: 10 kph/10 msec

Case 2
  • Following interference and signal disturbance can be cause by:
  1. A failure is detected when speed of three wheels are above 15 km/h (9.32 MPH) with subtle difference among their speed and the other one wheel is out of the specific speed range for over 20 seconds
  2. A failure is detected when speed of two wheels are above 15 km/h (9.32 MPH) with subtle difference among their speed and the other two wheels are out of the specific speed range for over 60 seconds
  3. A failure is detected when Minimum Wheel Speed is below 60% of maximum speed for over 2 minutes, where the maximum speed is higher than 40 km/h (24.85 MPH)
  4. A failure is detected when Minimum Wheel Speed is below 40% of maximum speed for over 2 minutes, where the maximum speed is higher than 20 km/h (12.42 MPH) and less than 40 km/h (24.85 MPH)
Case 3
  • If following interference and signal disturbance is detected
  1. A failure is detected when the signal is detected as a smart wheel sensor signal 200 times consecutively on the wheel that is set as active wheel sensor
  2. A failure is detected when the signal is detected as an invalid signal (is not smart wheel sensor signal) 200 times consecutively on the wheel that is set as smart wheel sensor

(The failure is detected when wheel Speed is in the range of 5~60 km/h (3.1~37 MPH))

MIL
  • Only one wheel failure: ABS/ESC/RBS/DBC/AVH warning lamps are activated
  • More than two wheels failure: EBD/ESC/ABS/RBS/DBC/AVH warning lamps are activated
  • One or Two wheels failure (Left Front and Rear or Right Front and Rear]): EPB warning lamp is not activated
  • Front/Rear All Side, All Side wheels failure: EPB warning lamp is activated
  • All wheels failure:

: IEB warning lamp is activated

Reset Condition
  • Turn ignition switch OFF and back ON
NOTE: * IEBM (Integrated Electric Brake Module: ESP Control Module)
