Repair Procedures: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
  • Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
  • To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.

Information 

  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

    Tightening torque: 

    3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)

  2. Remove the engine cover.

  3. Remove the engine room under cover (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolt (A): 7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb-ft)

    Bolt (B): 3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)

  4. Drain engine coolant.
    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap (A).

    2. Drain engine coolant by loosening the drain plug.
  5. Recover the A/C refrigerant and then remove the high & low pressure pipes of A/C compressor.

    (Refer to Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning - "COMPRESSOR ")

  6. Remove the air duct (A).

  7. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
    1. Disconnect the RCV hose (A).
    2. Disconnect the bleeder hose (B).
    3. Disconnect the intake hose (C) from turbocharger.
    4. Disconnect the AFS connector (D).
    5. Remove the air cleaner assembly (E).

      Tightening torque: 

      Hose clamp: 2.9 - 4.9 N.m (0.3 - 0.5 kgf.m, 2.2 - 3.6 lb-ft)

      Air cleaner assembly mounting bolt: 3.9 - 5.9 N.m (0.4 - 0.6 kgf.m, 2.9 - 4.3 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • When assembling the intake hose, match the alignment mark (A).

  8. Remove the battery.
    1. Open the positive battery cable cover (A).

    2. Loosen the positive cable mounting nut (B).

      Tightening torque: 

      Hose clamp: 7.8 - 9.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.0 kgf.m, 5.8 - 7.2 lb-ft)

    3. Remove the battery mounting bracket (C) and then remove the battery.

      Tightening torque: 

      18.6 - 29.4 N.m (1.9 - 3.0 kgf.m, 13.7 - 21.7 lb-ft)

  9. Disconnect the ECM connector (A).

  10. Remove the ECM and battery tray (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    18.6 - 29.4 N.m (1.9 - 3.0 kgf.m, 13.7 - 21.7 lb-ft)

  11. Remove the junction box cover (A).

  12. Disconnect the positive cable wiring.
    1. Disconnect the positive cable wiring (A).
    2. Remove the wiring protector (B).

  13. Disconnect the main wiring connector (A) from fuse box and then disconnect the ground cable (B).

  14. Disconnect the transaxle ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    26.5 - 32.4 N.m (2.7 - 3.3 kgf.m, 19.5 - 23.9 lb-ft))

  15. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A).

  16. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and PCSV hose (B).

  17. Remove the intercooler inlet hose and pipe.
    1. Remove the main wiring protector (A) from bracket. Disconnect the connector (B) and then remove from the intercooler inlet pipe.

    2. Remove the intercooler inlet hose and pipe (C).

      Tightening torque: 

      Mounting bolt: 18.6 - 23.5 N.m (1.9 - 2.4 kgf.m, 13.7 - 17.4 lb-ft)

      Clamp bolt: 4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb-ft)

    NOTE:
    • Insert the hose until it reaches the end of stopper.
  18. Disconnect the intercooler outlet hose (A).

    1. When disconnecting the intercooler hose, pull the quick connector clamp (A) in the direction of the arrow as shown in the illustration below.

    2. Move the quick connector clamp from B to C position as shown in the illustration below and then disconnect by pulling the quick connector hose.

  19. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  21. Disconnect the engine ground cable (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  22. Disconnect the reservoir tank water hose (A).

  23. Disconnect the heater hose (A).

  24. Remove the universal joint from the shaft joint

    (Refer to Steering System - "STEERING COLUMN & SHAFT ")

  25. Remove the front muffler.
    1. Disconnect the oxygen sensor (A).

    2. Remove the front muffler heat protector (B).

      Tightening torque: 

      9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb-ft)

    3. Loosen the hanger mounting nut and then remove the hanger (C) together with the bracket.

      Tightening torque: 

      29.4 - 39.2 N.m (3.0 - 4.0 kgf.m, 21.7 - 28.9 lb-ft)

    4. Remove the front muffler (D).

      Tightening torque: 

      39.2 - 58.8 N.m (4.0 - 6.0 kgf.m, 28.9 - 43.4 lb-ft)

  26. Remove the roll rod bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolt (B): 107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)

    Bolt (C): 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  27. Remove the roll rod mounting support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 58.8 N.m (5.0 - 6.0 kgf.m, 36.2 - 43.4 lb-ft)

  28. Remove the sub frame.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "SUB FRAME ")

  29. Support the engine and transaxle assembly safely with a floor jack.

  30. Remove the engine mounting support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  31. Remove the service cover (A).

  32. Remove the transaxle mounting bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    107.9 - 127.5 N.m (11.0 - 13.0 kgf.m, 79.6 - 94.0 lb-ft)

  33. Remove the engine and transaxle assembly from a vehicle by slowly lifting off the vehicle.

NOTE:
  • Before removing the engine assembly, make sure to check that the hoses and wire connectors are completely disconnected.
  • When removing the engine and transaxle assembly, be careful not to damage any surrounding parts or body components.
