Battery Load Tester

Determine the battery voltage drop when discharging at fixed load (120A) for a 5 seconds.

  1. Connect the tester to the battery correctly (Red clamp to battery (+) terminal, Black clamp to battery (-) terminal).
  2. Turn ON the test switch (A) of the tester 5 seconds.
    CAUTION:
    • Take care not to contact the load resistance top heating part (D) of the tester.
    • Do not test with a load of not recharged for more than 10 seconds.
  3. Check the instructions for the meter for 12V and refer to the below. (the green areas varies according to the battery cold cranking ampere (CCA), so check the battery specification.)

    1000A 11.2V
    800A 11.0V
    600A 10.7V
    400A 10.4V
    200A 10.0V
    NOTE: At low temperatures, temperature compensation is applied to the battery termination voltage refer to the below. 
    • -7°C to -17°C (19.4°F - 1.4°F): Application lower than 1 step.
    • -18°C to -27°C (-0.4°F to -16.6°F): Application lower than 2 step.
    1. Green: Good condition of battery
    2. Yellow (WEAK): Good condition of battery, but requires recharging.
    3. Red (BAD): Battery over-discharge or poor condition, recharging the battery and retest to continue lowering without stopping in the yellow area (WEAK) requires battery replacement.

      • Start the engine to check the state of charge by the alternator.
    1. Connect the clamp of tester to the each terminal of battery.
    2. Start the engine and check the tester.
    1. Green (OK): Alternator charging good
    2. Red (Left side): Alternator charging poor (Inspect the charging system)
    3. Red (Right side): Alternator over-charging (Inspect the charging system)
