Repair Procedures: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2023 Kia Seltos. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the (-) battery terminal.
  2. Remove the rear wheel and tire.

    (Refer to Suspension System - "WHEEL ")

  3. Remove the rear brake caliper.

    (Refer to Brake System - "REAR BRAKE CALIPER ")

    NOTE: Fix the caliper assembly with a wire.
  4. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensor connector (A).

    Tightening torque:

    6.9 - 10.8 N.m (0.7 - 1.1 kgf.m, 5.1 - 8.0 lb.ft)

    Information 

    Disconnect the EPB connector (A). (EPB type only)

  5. By hammering on a chisel, unlock the driveshaft lock hub nut caulking.

    NOTE: If there is screw thread (A) on the end of the nut, unlock the caulking by using a chisel and then loosen the nut to prevent damaging driveshaft screw thread.

  6. Remove the caulking nut (A) from the rear axle.

    Tightening torque: 

    274.6 - 294.2 N.m (28.0 - 30.0 kgf.m, 202.5 - 217.0 lb.ft)

    NOTE:
    • The driveshaft lock nut must be replaced with new one. When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • When replacing the drive lock hub nut, use only the nut with screw thread (A) on the end.

    • Tighten the driveshaft lock hub nut to the specified tightening torque, and caulk by using a chisel and hammer.
    • If there are two key seats, perform on all two seats.

      Caulking depth (A):  1.5 mm (0.0591 in)

  7. Loosen the rear lower arm mounting bolt and nut from the rear axle.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.2 - 115.7 lb.ft)

  8. Loosen the rear assist arm mounting bolt and nut from the rear axle.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.2 - 115.7 lb.ft)

  9. Loosen the rear upper arm mounting bolt and nut from the rear axle.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.2 - 115.7 lb.ft)

  10. Loosen the rear trailing arm mounting bolt and nut from the rear axle.

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.2 - 115.7 lb.ft)

  11. Separate the driveshaft from the front axle hub by using the SST (09517-4E000).

    Tightening torque: 

    137.3 - 156.9 N.m (14.0 - 16.0 kgf.m, 101.2 - 115.7 lb.ft)

    NOTE: Removing the driveshaft, do not force pull or over deflect the axle.
  12. Remove the rear axle.
