Brake Caliper Piston

NOTE: Use a new caliper piston boot and seal whenever installing.
  1. Place a piece of cloth (A) between the piston and caliper body.

  2. Slowly inject compressed air (A) into the caliper cylinder and push the piston out.

    CAUTION: Do not place your fingers in front of the piston when using compressed air.
  3. Remove the caliper piston (A).

    NOTE: Be careful not to damage the caliper piston or cylinder.
  4. Remove the caliper piston boot (A).

  5. Using a screwdriver or remover, remove the piston seal (A) from the caliper cylinder.

    NOTE: Be careful not to damage the inner surface or piston seal groove of the cylinder.
  6. Install the piston seal (B) into the cylinder seal groove (A).

    NOTE:
    • Use a new caliper piston seal whenever installing.
    • Apply assembly oil to the piston seal.
    • Take care not to get any foreign matter into the cylinder.
  7. Insert the piston boot (A) in the direction of the arrow and position the boot at the end of piston.

    NOTE:
    • Use a new caliper piston boot whenever installing.
    • Apply assembly oil to the piston surface.
    • Be careful not to change the direction of the boot.
    • Be careful not to damage the boot.
  8. Turn the spindle nut (A) clockwise and push it in fully. Check the position of the spindle (B).

  9. Install the piston boot (A) into the cylinder boot groove (B).

    NOTE: Take care not to get any foreign matter into the cylinder.
  10. Check the position of the piston groove (A) and insert it into the cylinder.

    NOTE:
    • Be careful not to tilt the piston when inserting the piston.
    • Do not apply excessive force when inserting the piston.
    • Rotate the piston slowly to prevent damage to the piston boot.
  11. Make sure that the caliper piston boot (A) is correctly installed.

  12. Install the brake caliper assembly.
  13. After installation, bleed the brake system.

    (Refer to Brake system - "BRAKE BLEEDING PROCEDURES ")

  14. Check and clean any spilled brake fluid.
