Main Function
- Static Braking Mode
The operation and the cancellation at the stop condition of the vehicle
- The operation condition (PULL): Pull the EPB switch regardless of the brake pedal pressed condition.
- vehicle speed: < 3 kph
- The cancellation condition (PUSH): Push the EPB switch with the ignition on & the brake pedal pressed.
- The operation condition (PULL): Pull the EPB switch regardless of the brake pedal pressed condition.
- Dynamic Braking Function
Dynamic Braking Function (DBF): The DBF is the braking function while driving, it can operate the EPB system and cancel it while driving. This function will be used while foreign materials get in between the brake pedal or the brake hydraulic line can not be operated.
- The operation condition
It operates only when the vehicle speed is faster than 3 kph and the EPB switch is pushed.
- The cancellation condition: It is canceled when pulling of the EPB switch has stopped.
- Principle of Operation
- ESP system in normal condition: EPB requests brake pressure application to ESP system.
- ESP system in abnormal condition: EPB operates the parking brake to reduce speed.
- Judgement
Anti-lock is operated when wheel lock-up occurs. Parking lamp on the cluster illuminates in the case of emergency braking.
- The operation condition
- Drive Away Release
Convenient for drivers, EPB is automatically released when driver shift from P into another gear (R/N/D/S) during braking.
- This reconnection function to operate EPB normally after emergency release.
Operation
- After emergency release, when operating EPB, the hook connects to the claw in the EPB while operating parking brake with maximum cable tension.
- Reconnection function can be performed with the KDS.
- After testing for reconnection 5 times, if EPB does not operate in current ignition cycle, the EPB does not operate normally.
- Bedding Mode
You perform "Bedding in process" for optimizing the initial operation performance of EPB after replacing the parking brake shoe and rear brake disc as below.
Bedding in Process
- Ignition on, start engine.
- Apply the foot brake 2 times within 10 seconds and hold brake pedal pressed in.
- Apply the EPB switch 4 times, followed by 3 release applications within 10 seconds.
- To properly perform bed-in, perform 6 dynamic braking procedures by accelerating to 30-35 km/h to full stop. (If the vehicle speed is over 50 km/h during Bedding Mode, it is automatically canceled.)
- After each braking cycle a cooling period for the linings is necessary to prevent lining damage.
- Cooling can be performed by driving 500 meters after each brake application without any EPB application or by keeping the vehicle at a standstill for 1 minute after each brake application.
- The Automatic Vehicle Hold (AVH) system assist to keep the vehicle stopped by applying hydraulic pressure to the wheels.
- Condition for operation
- Engine running
- Auto hold switch ON.
- Drivers door closed
- Fastened drivers seat belt buckle
- Gear position out of park (P)
- Normal braking condition
- The Automatic Vehicle Hold (AVH) system hold the vehicle for a maximum of 5 minutes.
The VDC valves inside the hydraulic unit hold brake fluid to maintain brake pressure in calipers.
- An accumulated time of AVH operation: Max. 30min
- Automatic release function
The AVH mode is released when drivers begins to drive by pressing accelerator (vehicle must be in Drive or Reverse gears.
- Automatically convert AVH to EPB
AVH will convert EPB operation automatically if any one of the conditions below are met.
[Normal conversion case]
- In the case of driver door open & Driver seat belt unbuckled at the same time.
- In the case of opening the hood while the shift lever is D or S.
- In the case of opening the trunk while the shift lever is R
- In the case of AVH operation time is over 5 minutes.
- Stop at a slope of 25 degrees or more.
[Abnormal conversion case]
- When sensing detailed motion of the vehicle.
- When sensing the fault of ESP hydraulic system.
- Condition for operation
