Component Inspection

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2021 Hyundai Kona. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Check MAPS performance.
    1. Turn the ignition switch "OFF".
    2. Connect CH A probe to signal terminal MAPS and CH B probe to signal terminal of TPS connector.
    3. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
    4. Measure signal waveform of MAPS and TPS together by stepping on and off the accelerator pedal.

Specification:  Refer to SIGNAL WAVEFORM & DATA

    5. Is the measured signal waveform (Comparison response of TPS with MAPS) OK?

      YES

      • Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or ECM's connector. Or, ECM memory was not cleared after repair. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, ending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR ".

      NO

      • Replace the MAPS with an usable one and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace the MAPS and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR ".

As often as possible, the MAPS signal should be compared with the TPS signal. Check whether the MAPS and TPS signals increase at the same time when accelerating. During acceleration, the MAPS output voltage increases; during deceleration, the MAPS output voltage decreases.
