When crankshaft is able to rotate

  1. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
  2. Remove the engine cover. (Refer to Engine Cover )
  3. Remove the engine room under cover. (Refer to Engine Room Under Cover )
  4. Recover the A/C refrigerant. (Refer to REPAIR PROCEDURES )
  5. Loosen the drain plug, and drain the engine coolant. (Refer to COOLANT )

    Information 

    While draining the coolant and recovering the A/C refrigerant, proceed below procedure at the same time.

  6. Remove the dust cover (A).

  7. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A) with rotating the crankshaft.

    Tightening torque: 

    45.1 - 52.0 N.m (4.6 - 5.3 kgf.m, 33.3 - 38.3 lb-ft)

  8. Loosen the engine & transmission lower mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolt (A) : 42.2 - 48.1 N.m (4.3 - 4.9 kgf.m, 31.1 - 35.4 lb-ft)

    Bolt (B) : 42.2 - 54.0 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)

  9. Remove the front muffler (A) after loosening the front muffler mounting nuts.

    Tightening torque: 

    39.2 ~ 58.8 N.m (4.0 ~ 6.0 kgf.m, 28.9 ~ 43.4 lb-ft)

  10. Remove the air duct (A).

  11. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
    1. Disconnect the breather hose (A), the recirculation hose (B) and the brake booster vacuum hose (C).
    2. Disconnect the air intake hose (D) and then remove the air cleaner assembly (E).

  12. Remove the battery and battery tray. (Refer to BATTERY )
  13. Remove the front bumper. (Refer to FRONT BUMPER COVER )
  14. Remove the head lamp. (Refer to HEAD LAMPS )
  15. Separate the ATF cooler hose (A).

  16. Disconnect the radiator upper hose (A).

  17. Disconnect the radiator lower hose (A).

  18. Disconnect the radiator over flow hose (A).

  19. Disconnect the recirculation valve connector (A) and the vacuum hose (B), and then remove the intercooler inlet pipe & hose assembly (C).

    Tightening torque: 

    Hose clamp bolt : 4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb-ft)

    Pipe mounting bolt : 14.7 - 19.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.0 kgf.m, 10.8 - 14.5 lb-ft)

  20. Disconnect the boost pressure sensor connector (A) and then remove the intercooler outlet pipe & hose assembly (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    4.9 - 6.9 N.m (0.5 - 0.7 kgf.m, 3.6 - 5.1 lb-ft)

  21. Loosen the ground bolt and disconnect the connectors around the FEM.
    NOTE: Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection.

  22. Disconnect the hood latch cable.
  23. Separate the discharge line (A) and liquid line (B) from the condenser.

  24. Remove the FEM after loosening the fender fixed bolts and FEM carrier mounting bolts.
    NOTE: Marking is necessary before removing FEM in order to install the FEM in the right place as it was.

  25. Disconnect the intensifier hose (A) and the vacuum hose (B).

  26. Remove the high pressure fuel pump foam (A).

  27. Disconnect the fuel hose (A) and PCSV (Purge control solenoid valve) hose (B).

  28. Disconnect the heater hoses (A).

  29. Disconnect the (+) cable (A) from the fuse/relay box and the front connector (B) and then remove the wiring protector (C).

  30. Disconnect the ECM connectors (A) from the ECM, the fuse box connector (B) from the fuse/relay box and the engine ground line (C) and then remove the wiring protector (D).

  31. Remove the drive belt and water pump belt. (Refer to DRIVE BELT )
  32. Remove the water pump pulley. (Refer to the WATER PUMP )
  33. Remove the drive belt tensioner. (Refer to DRIVE BELT TENSIONER )
  34. Remove the crankshaft damper pulley. (Refer to CRANKSHAFT DAMPER PULLEY )
    NOTE: Use the SST (Ring gear stopper) to remove the damper pulley bolt.
  35. Remove the compressor. (Refer to COMPRESSOR )
  36. Remove the alternator (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7N.m (5.0 - 6.5kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0lb-ft)

  37. Remove the intake manifold stay (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    18.6 - 23.5 N.m (1.9 - 2.4 kgf.m, 13.7 - 17.4 lb-ft)

  38. Remove the starter.
    1. Disconnect the starter cable (A) from the B terminal on the solenoid, and then disconnect the connector (B).
    2. Loosen the starter motor mounting bolts (C), and then remove the starter.

    Tightening torque: 

    49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  39. Support the transmission using the jack and install the lift jack of engine hanger.

    Tightening torque: 

    10.8 - 13.7 N.m (1.1 - 1.4 kgf.m, 8.0 - 10.1 lb-ft)

  40. Loosen the engine & transmission upper mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    Bolt (A) : 42.2 - 54.0 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb-ft)

    Bolt (B) : 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb-ft)

  41. Disconnect the ground cable (A), and then remove the engine mounting support bracket (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.6 lb-ft)

  42. Remove the engine from the transmission.

    NOTE: Using the pry bar, separate the engine and transmission
