Repair Procedures: Replacement
- Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery and then wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the steering wheel so that the front wheels can face straight ahead.
- Remove the airbag module.
(Refer to the AIRBAG MODULES & CLOCK SPRING article)
- Loosen the lock nut.
- Remove the steering wheel (A) from the steering column shaft by using a SST (09561-11001).
NOTE: Do not hammer on the steering wheel to remove it; it may damage the steering column.
- Loosen the screw and then remove the steering column shroud (A).
- Disconnect the connector and then remove the clock spring (A).
NOTE: When assembling, set the center position by setting the marks between the clock spring and the cover into line. Make an array the mark (><) by turning the clock spring clockwise to the stop and then 2.0 revolutions counterclockwise.
- Loosen the screw and then remove the multifunction switch (A).
- Loosen the screw and then remove the crash pad lower panel (A).

- Loosen the nut and then remove the lower panel bracket (A).
- Loosen the bolt (A) and then disconnect the universal joint assembly from the pinion of the steering gear box.
Tightening Torques:
32.0 ~ 37.0 N.m (3.3 ~ 3.8 kgf.m, 24.0 ~ 27.4 lb-ft)
NOTE:- Keep the neutral-range to prevent the damage of the clock spring inner cable when you handle the steering wheel.
- Change to the New bolt when assembling
- Loosen the nuts and then remove the steering column dust cover (A).
- Disconnect all connectors connected to the steering column assembly.
- Remove the steering column assembly by loosening the mounting bolts and nuts.
Tightening torque:
13 ~ 18 N.m (1.3 ~ 1.8 kgf.m, 9 ~ 13 lb-ft)
- Installation is the reverse of the removal.NOTE: When installing the clock spring, refer the AIRBAG MODULES & CLOCK SPRING article to prevent the damage of clock spring inner cable.
