Oil Pressure Switch
NOTE:
If oil light is on during engine operation, check oil level and oil pressure before proceeding with this test.
- If engine can not be operated, go to next step. Disconnect oil pressure sending unit harness connector. Check for continuity between oil pressure sending unit terminal and ground. Ensure continuity exists with engine off, and does not exist with engine operating. Replace oil pressure switch if continuity is not as specified.
- Ensure engine is off. Remove oil pressure switch. Check for continuity between oil pressure switch terminal and switch body. If continuity does not exist, replace oil pressure switch.
- Insert a fine wire into oil pressure switch oil hole. Check for continuity between switch terminal and switch body when fine wire is pushed. If continuity exists, when wire is pushed, replace oil pressure switch.
- Apply 7.0 psi of pressure to oil pressure switch hole. Check for continuity between switch terminal and switch body when vacuum is applied. If continuity does not exist, oil pressure switch is operating properly. Ensure oil pressure switch holds applied vacuum. If switch leaks and does not hold applied vacuum, diaphragm is broken and switch must be replaced.
- If replacing oil pressure switch, tighten to 71-106 INCH lbs. (8-12 N.m). DO NOT overtighten oil pressure switch.
