Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Hyundai XG350. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When disconnecting and testing Hydraulic and Electronic Control Unit (HECU) harness connector, be sure to remove harness connector double lock and insert probe into harness side (backprobe). Inserting probe into terminal side will result in a bad connection.
  1. Turn ignition off. Access instrument cluster harness connectors. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Disconnect instrument cluster 14-pin harness connector I18-3. Turn ignition on. If ABS warning light does not remain illuminated, go to next step. If ABS warning light remains illuminated, replace instrument cluster. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repair, retest system.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect HECU 25-pin harness connector. HECU is located at right rear corner of engine compartment, on firewall. If ABS warning light remains illuminated, go to next step. If ABS warning light turns off, replace HECU. See HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, retest system.
  3. Check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connection in instrument cluster harness connector. Also, check for poor, loose, corroded or damaged terminal connection in HECU harness connector. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, retest system.
  4. Repair short to ground in Blue/Black wire between HECU and instrument cluster. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repair, retest system.
