Testing Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Hyundai XG350. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
When disconnecting and testing Hydraulic and Electronic Control Unit (HECU) harness connector, be sure to remove harness connector double lock and insert probe into harness side (backprobe). Inserting probe into terminal side will result in a bad connection.
- Turn ignition off. Connect HI-SCAN (PRO) or equivalent scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel, near kick panel. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in ACTUATOR TEST mode, command ABS motor On. If ABS motor operating sounds are heard, check for intermittent problem in circuits between fusible link No. 2 and HECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If ABS motor operating sounds are not heard, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect HECU 25-pin harness connector. HECU is located at right rear corner of engine compartment, on firewall. Measure voltage between ground and HECU harness connector terminal No. 25 (Red wire). See Figure . Also, measure voltage between ground and HECU harness connector terminal No. 9 (Red wire). If battery voltage does not exist at both readings, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, replace HECU. See HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, retest system.
- Check for and repair open or short in Red wire between fusible links and HECU. Fusible links are located in engine compartment relay/fuse box. After repair, retest system.
