Testing Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Hyundai XG350. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: When disconnecting and testing Hydraulic and Electronic Control Unit (HECU) harness connector, be sure to remove harness connector double lock and insert probe into harness side (backprobe). Inserting probe into terminal side will result in a bad connection.
  1. Check wheel speed sensor installation. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair or replace wheel speed sensor as necessary. See WHEEL SPEED SENSORS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, retest system.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect HECU 25-pin harness connector. HECU is located at right rear corner of engine compartment, on firewall. Measure resistance between specified HECU harness connector terminals while moving sensor harness around. See CHECKING WHEEL SPEED SENSOR RESISTANCE AT HECU HARNESS CONNECTOR  table. See Figure . Resistance reading should be 1275-1495 ohms. If resistance reading is as specified, go to step  4 . If resistance reading is not as specified, go to next step.
CHECKING WHEEL SPEED SENSOR RESISTANCE AT HECU HARNESS CONNECTOR

    Application Measure Between Terminals No.
    Left Front 1 & 2
    Left Rear 5 & 6
    Right Front 19 & 20
    Right Rear 22 & 23
  3. Check for open or high resistance in circuits between suspect wheel speed sensor and HECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repair, retest system.
  4. Check wheel speed sensor output voltage. Perform TEST NO. 6: WHEEL SPEED OUTPUT SENSOR VOLTAGE CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. If wheel speed sensor output voltage is as specified, go to next step. If wheel speed sensor output voltage is not as specified, replace wheel speed sensor. See WHEEL SPEED SENSORS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, retest system.
  5. Check tone wheel on brake rotor for corrosion, foreign matter or broken and chipped teeth. If no problem with rotor is found, go to next step. If problem is found, replace brake rotor as necessary. See appropriate DISC & DRUM article. After repair, retest system.
  6. Check wheel bearings for looseness. If no problem is found, go to next step. If problem is found, repair or replace wheel bearing as necessary. After repair, retest system.
  7. Replace HECU. See HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, retest system.
