Except Sonata & XG300

  1. Disconnect coolant temperature sending unit harness connector located in engine compartment. Turn ignition on. Needle should drop to COOL area of gauge. Turn ignition off. Connect a 12-volt, 3.4-watt test light in series between ground and sending unit harness connector Blue wire (Gray wire on Elantra; Brown/Orange wire on Santa Fe) terminal.
  2. Turn ignition on. Ensure test light flashes/illuminates and coolant temperature gauge moves toward HOT area of gauge. If test light illuminates but gauge does not move, replace coolant temperature gauge. If test light does not illuminate, check wiring for open circuit. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace coolant temperature gauge.
