Sonata & Tiburon

  1. Disconnect vehicle speed sensor harness connector. Remove vehicle speed sensor. On Sonata with manual transmission, connect positive battery terminal to terminal No. 2 and negative battery terminal to terminal No. 3 at vehicle speed sensor. See Fig 1. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 1 and negative lead to terminal No. 3 at vehicle speed sensor.
  2. On Tiburon and Sonata with automatic transmission, connect positive battery terminal to terminal No. 3 and negative battery terminal to terminal No. 2 at vehicle speed sensor. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 1 and negative lead to terminal No. 2 at vehicle speed sensor.
  3. On all models, rotate vehicle speed sensor manually. Voltage should change from zero to 11 volts or more, 4 times per revolution. If vehicle speed sensor does not test as specified, replace vehicle speed sensor.
