Coolant Temperature Gauge

  1. Disconnect coolant temperature sending unit harness connector, located in engine compartment. Turn ignition on. Needle should drop to COOL area of gauge. Connect a 12-volt, 3.4-watt (1.4-watt on Accent) test light in series between ground and sending unit harness connector terminal. Turn ignition on.
  2. Ensure test light illuminates and coolant temperature gauge moves toward hot. If test light illuminates but gauge does not move, replace coolant temperature gauge. If test light does not illuminate, check wiring for open circuit. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, replace coolant temperature gauge.
