DTC C1200, C1203, C1206 Or C1209: Wheel Speed Sensor Open Or Short To Ground

  1. Turn ignition off. Inspect suspect wheel speed sensor for proper installation. Repair as necessary and retest system. If installation is okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Hydraulic and Electronic Control Unit (HECU) harness connector. Measure resistance between appropriate HECU harness connector terminals. See appropriate WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. If resistance is 1275-1495 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 1275-1495 ohms, repair circuit between suspect wheel speed sensor and HECU.
  3. Raise and support vehicle. While rotating appropriate wheel by hand, measure AC voltage between appropriate HECU harness connector terminals. See appropriate WHEEL SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION table. If AC voltage exists, go to step  7 . If AC voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect suspect wheel speed sensor harness connector. Rear wheel speed sensor harness connectors are located outboard of rear seat cushion, behind rear pillar trim. Measure resistance between wheel speed sensor terminals. If resistance is 1275-1495 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 1275-1495 ohms, replace wheel speed sensor.
  5. While rotating wheel by hand, measure AC voltage between wheel speed sensor terminals. If AC voltage exists, go to next step. If AC voltage does not exist, replace wheel speed sensor.
  6. Inspect brake rotor and wheel bearings. Replace, if necessary and retest system. If brake rotor and wheel bearings are okay, go to next step.
  7. Inspect HECU harness connector for poor connections. Repair necessary and retest system. If connector is okay, replace HECU.
