Fuel Gauge
- Raise vehicle. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit connector at fuel tank. Connect 12-volt, 3.4-watt test light in series between ground and fuel gauge sending unit harness connector terminal No. 2. SeeFig 1
. Turn ignition on. Ensure test light flashes and fuel gauge moves to "F" position.
- If test light flashes but gauge does not move to "F" position, replace fuel gauge. If test light does not flash, check wiring for open circuit. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. Connect ohmmeter leads between fuel gauge test terminals on back of instrument cluster. SeeFig 2
. Resistance should be 55 ohms. If resistance is extremely low, check for shorted fuel gauge coil. If resistance is extremely high, check for open in wiring or damaged coil. Repair or replace as necessary.
