Coolant Temperature Gauge

Disconnect coolant temperature gauge sending unit connector, located in engine compartment. Connect a 12-volt, 3.4-watt test light in series between ground and sending unit harness connector terminal. Turn ignition on.
Ensure test light illuminates and coolant temperature gauge moves. If test light illuminates but gauge does not move, replace coolant temperature gauge. If test light does not illuminate, check wiring for open circuit. Repair as necessary. If wiring is okay, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between ground and coolant temperature gauge sending unit terminal. Replace coolant gauge sending unit if resistance is not as specified. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE TEST . If resistance is as specified, replace coolant temperature gauge.
