Throttle Position Sensor

  1. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) terminals No. 1 and 4. See Fig 1 . Resistance should be 3500-6500 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not as specified, check wire harness. If wire harness is okay, replace TPS.
  2. Check resistance between terminals No. 1 and 3 with engine idling at normal operating temperature. Resistance should be 400 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not as specified, adjust TPS.
  3. Check resistance between terminals No. 1 and 3 as throttle is operated from idle to wide open position. If resistance reading changes smoothly, TPS is normal. If resistance does not change smoothly, replace TPS.
