Damper Clutch Circuit

  1. Connect tachometer to vehicle. Apply parking brake. Start engine and allow it to idle. Ensure engine idle is correctly adjusted. If engine idle is not correct, adjust as necessary. With engine idling, apply brake pedal and shift selector lever to "R", "D" and "P" positions. If transaxle does not shift into specified positions, go to next step. If transaxle shifts into specified positions, damper clutch circuit is okay.
  2. Turn engine off. Check for sticking damper clutch control solenoid valve. Repair if necessary. If solenoid valve is okay, check for sticking clutch control valve. See Figure . Repair if necessary. If clutch control valve is okay, check for sticking damper clutch. Repair if necessary. If damper clutch is okay, replace torque converter.
