Oil Pump: Reassembly

  1. Apply Dexron-II ATF to oil seal, and install oil seal to pump housing. Lubricate pump gears with Dexron-II, and install gears to pump housing. If installing original gears, ensure they are installed in original positions using marks made during disassembly.
  2. Measure driven gear side clearance. Driven gear side clearance must be .0004-.0020" (.01-.050 mm). If clearance is incorrect, replace components (if necessary).
  3. Install steel ball in pump housing, and install 2 seal rings (coated with Dexron-II ATF) to reaction shaft support. Install reaction shaft support to pump housing, and tighten bolts finger tight.
  4. Install Oil Pump Guide Pin (09452-21401) and Oil Pump Band (09452-21301) to assembled pump. See Fig 1 . Tighten pump bolts to 89-102 INCH lbs. (10-11.5 N.m). After tightening bolts, ensure pump gear turns freely. If not, disassemble and check reassembly and driven gear clearance. Install a NEW large "O" ring to outside circumference of pump, and lubricate "O" ring with petroleum jelly.
