Pedal Height & Free Play: Sonata

  1. Measure pedal height from surface of floor panel to top of brake pedal. See Figure . If pedal height is not 6.97" (177 mm), loosen stoplight switch lock nut and back off the stoplight switch to where it no longer contacts the brake pedal arm. Turn stoplight switch until the clearance between stoplight outer case and the brake pedal arm is .02-.04" (.5-1.0 mm). Tighten lock nut.
  2. Start engine. Apply brake pedal with 110 lbs. (50 kg) force. Clearance between floor board and top of brake pedal should be 3.15" (80 mm) for 4-cylinder or 2.8" (71 mm) for V6. If clearance is not to specification, check brake adjustment or for air in system.
