Pedal Height & Free Play

  1. Measure pedal height from upper surface of floor panel to top of brake pedal. See Fig 1 . If pedal height is not 7.2-7.4" (183-188 mm), loosen stoplight switch. Adjust power brake unit push rod until specified pedal height is obtained.
  2. Reconnect push rod. With engine off, depress brake pedal 2-3 times to exhaust power brake unit vacuum. Check brake pedal free play. If free play is not .4-.6" (10-15 mm), adjust stoplight switch until clearance is obtained.
  3. Start engine. Apply brake pedal with 110 lbs. (50 kg) force. Clearance between floor board and top of brake pedal should be 1.6" (41 mm) or more. If clearance is not to specifications, check brake adjustment or for air in system.
