Valve Guides

  1. Ensure valve stem is within specifications and check valve stem clearance. If clearance exceeds service limits, replace valve guide with next oversize. See VALVE GUIDE OVERSIZES  table.

  2. Use a valve guide remover to drive out each guide toward bottom of cylinder head. Ream guide bore in cylinder head to specified size. See VALVE GUIDE OVERSIZES  table.
  3. Using Valve Guide Installer (MD998301), install new guides into head. See Fig 1. Use of special tool makes it possible to install guide to predetermined height.
    CAUTION: DO NOT  use standard size valve guide for replacement. Be sure to install valve guide at room temperature.
  4. Check guide clearance with new valve. Ream as necessary.
