Valve Springs: Notes

  1. With camshaft and rocker arm assembly removed, use valve spring compressor to remove retainer locks. Remove all retainers, springs, spring seats and valves. Keep components in proper order for reassembly.
  2. Check valve spring free length. Check installed height. Installed height is measured between spring seat and bottom of retainer. On 1.5L and 1.6L engines, installed height should be 1.469" (37.3 mm).
  3. On either engine, standard spring squareness measurement should be 2 degrees. If beyond 4 degrees, replace spring.
NOTE: Valve spring should be installed with enamel coated side toward valve spring retainer.
